Buds Theatre uses theatre for change as one of its main motivators to stimulate and navigate the theatrical landscape.
We do this as we believe that theatre is a powerful medium of expression, in particular live theatre, which instigates a real time emotional response, a potential spiritual investment and residual memory that operates as a multidimensional trigger.
What is Theatre for Change?
The aim of Theatre for Change is to examine social issues that are pertinent to communities and societies in order to empower people to bring about personal and social change.
Theatre for social change is one of many frameworks that can be used to solve problems and create changes in society. At Buds Theatre, we generally use FORUM THEATRE, as our method of exchange. Aside from the entertainment value of theatre, Theatre for Change, offers our audiences a new genre that specifically focuses on their needs.
We don’t present alternative realities, impossible dreams, we present gritty, controversial, conflicting, honest and confronting situations that are familiar to society, that allow our audiences to organically and immediately respond.
We are not looking for “Disney” happy-ever-afters, we are looking at raising questions, promoting dialogue and discussion, empowering our audiences to think independently, to listen to alternative viewpoints, to problem solve, to empathise.
It competes with online forums as it is a live and visceral experience with immediate impact.
